License suspension periods in Michigan increase with each OWI within the lookback period:
First offense: 30 days suspension + 150 days restricted – High BAC: 45-day hard suspension + 320 days restricted WITH interlock (1 year total); hardship: restricted license is the standard path
Second offense: 1-year revocation (minimum) — license REVOKED, not suspended; reinstatement only via Secretary of State hearing – indefinite until hearing won; hardship: restricted license possible after 1 year via hearing, with interlock
Third offense: 5-year minimum revocation (if second revocation within 7 years); reinstatement only via SOS hearing – indefinite; hardship: hearing-based, interlock required
Refusing the chemical test
1-year implied-consent suspension for first refusal (2 years for second within 7) + 6 points; hardship appeal to circuit court possible. Separate from any conviction penalties.
